The most common query we receive is, with the Taliban in charge, can we still help women in Afghanistan?
If you read our latest newsletter, you will be left in no doubt that we most certainly can.
Between our writing this and your reading it, circumstances in Afghanistan will have changed. A land locked country, sandwiched between border skirmishes with Pakistan and a war in Iran, the day to day lives for Afghans is likely to have become more difficult.
Every six months, in writing these newsletters, I seem to be repeating myself in advising how things are getting worse in Afghanistan, but there can be no doubt how bad things have become for Afghan women.
Fifteen years of experience helping Afghan women and their families has contributed towards the Foundation’s growth, which enables us to expand the number and scope of the projects we support, without changing our focus.
A downside is that although we have managed to cover all UK costs until now, this is becoming unaffordable and so we now have to change our policy.
The Trustees’ annual contributions will remain undiminished, but we have decided that 2% of donations will be used to help pay for UK overheads.
We are determined to maintain our core values to
- support Afghan women and children
- fund small projects, so spreading risk and linking outcomes to smaller donations
- retain the ability to identify those individuals who have benefited
- keep administration costs to a minimum
- remain small, independent, nimble and focused on our projects, not our development.
In the final analysis though, it’s your donations that have made all of this possible, so thank you.
